Start up car when put gear to reverse it shuts off even if I put the gear to drive. Then the engine light turns on and the start button stays green

Hello, Your torque converter clutch is likely locked, which is the equivalent of putting a manual transmission vehicle into fifth gear, holding the brakes, and releasing the clutch suddenly. It will jolt and the engine will stall. The check engine light is coming on because the vehicle is on without the engine running, and that should reset as soon as you power the vehicle off, then back on. Does this issue happen all the time? If so, it could be diagnosed with relative ease.
