over heats when engine gets hot

Hello, cooling system issues can be difficult to dig into. First, ensure you do not have any air pockets in your cooling system. This would happen when a component, such as a thermostat, has been replaced. Air must be purged out to ensure good coolant circulation. Second, have you verified proper cooling fan operation? Last, ensure your engine does not have an internal engine leak; the coolant can be checked for the presence of hydrocarbons, and a test can be performed.
The most common problem would be 1 of 2 things so start with the easiest and cheapest fix witch would be the thermostat often the thermostats get old clogged Etc you can replace that then check and see if it overheats but still overheats you're more than likely looking at a water pump or your radiator flush your radiator real good and if you do that and you see no leaks or anything then more than likely you're dealing with the water pump issue
