When the brake and tail lights do not shut off is it the brake light switch. If so, how do I install a new one

The brake and tail light filaments are in the same bulb. I suspect the brake light switch has shorted out internally. Open the drivers door, kneel in the foot well area looking up at the brake pedal. There is a switch at the pedal. Disconnect the electrical connector and see if the lights at the rear go out. If so the switch is bad. The switch screws out of the brake pedal bracket but it must be adjusted correctly or the brakes may drag and remain on.

it could be a small rubber plug that turns the brake lights on/off that might need to be replaced its located on the brake pedal. when the plug is worn out it will leave a gap on the pedal.
