What is the approximate cost to have the BCM replaced? I understand that the VIN has to be programmed in to the BCM. Is this something I can program myself with a laptop?

You can't reprogram it yourself, special software is required. The BCM is behind the left side of the dash takes about 1 to 1.3 hours labor to replace the module itself wil retail for approx $200 to $230.
had this done not long ago. call the chevy dealer for price of bcm, call more than one dealer because one dealer wanted $240, but I got it at another chevy dealer for $164. also they have to reprogram it they charged me $65 and that was for program and installation. total for part installation and programming was $238. make sure you get the bcm from chevy dealer and let them install it.
I have a 2007 chevy impala ss that will not start. I just get a "click" when turning the key. I charged the battery for hours and it would just click no turnover.I called AAA and he put two jump chargers on it and it started. I parked in garage and put on trickle charger for 10 hours; still just got a click! Also, the dash lights when out completely for about 10 seconds when I tried starting. I replaced battery with new one....click! Took starter out and tested it and it passed the test 3 times! Replaced starter relay and put starter back in and guess what....CLICK! Now what? BCM?
I just bought a BCM at NAPA Auto Parts for $144. Will take into dealership for programming. I understand this will cost around $50 according to what I've heard from other owners who did this.
I just called autozone & they want $320 before $60 core.(for my 2002 chevrolet impala 3.4) They have to order it but it comes already programmed you will have to give them your vin & mileage.
