What is your question?
My 2005 BMW 530 I when I drive for a while and stop I have a distinct smell of burning oil. The other night after parking, I not only smelled oil but I also saw some white smoke coming from the front recently (where the headlight wiper covers are. What could it be? Approx cost?

You probably only smell it when you park because that is when you are outside the car when it has been driven. Unless you are smelling it inside the cabin. You most likely have an oil leak, possibly a valve cover gasket causing oil to leak onto the exhaust manifold. Or possibly a oil filter housing gasket. Any qualified BMW Specialist should be able to figure it out pretty quickly with a visual inspection. I hope this helps, Kind regards, Stephane Grabina BMW Excluservice Rockville, MD 20852 www.bmwexcluservice.com
Stephanie. Thank you, you are awesome. I took the car to an Indy mechanic and he said the valve cover gasket was leaking badly. Cost of repair $585 (I am in Atlanta Georgia). He said also on the driver side the oil filter housing gasket is oozing a little, but not bad. The estimated cost is $650 so (being short on funds) decided to wait to do that since he said the valve cover gasket was more crucial in terms of safety and also the amount of oil and possible further damage that could result if I didnt fix it.
I am glad you were able to get this taken care of. After this type of repair you may still smell a little bit as it will take a little time to burn off any residual oil and or the cleaning solvents the shop used to clean up the mess. Hopefully they did. I also hope they made sure that the valve cover itself was not warped as if it is it will start to leak again. Kind regards, Stephane.
