Are there any problems with the 2012 MKZ air conditioning compressor?

My 2012 Lincoln MKZ has had intermittent times when the air conditioner doesn't work. One time it was 90 degrees out! The dealer has checked the air conditioning unit and said they didn't find any problems---it worked for them, fluid levels and all other stuff was good. They said the air conditioning compressor could be going. To replace it, because it is a hybrid, it would be $4,000!!!! Is there any known recalls or problems with the air conditioning compressor in the 2012 model? Any other ideas?
What makes this problem better or worse?
The problem happened when it was hot, then it worked ok since.
