4 wheel drive

(2004 Kia Sorento)
in South Saint Paul, MN on December 09, 2009
The 4 wheel drive suddenly quit working. The light on the dash says it is on but the front wheels do nothing. I have been using it because of a blizzard then I started it after class and could not get the front wheels to work.

Kia as a car manufacturer put a lot of great technical information and work shop manuals on line for free for Kia owners. www.kiatechinfo.com

Same thing happened to me last week - first time this year I really needed the 4WD to get through snowy mountain roads. After a frightening trip to town I took it straight to the dealer. Diagnosis: Failed front differential air pump (a vacuum pump that activates the front differential), part#51030 3E100. Est. cost to repair: $600. Isn't this covered by the drivetrain warrenty? Not according to them!
