2015 Kia Forte gas gauge flashes and shows empty shortly after fill up. Car originally shows full tank and then after one or two starts or while driving the gauge drops and either shows low miles/ fuel or the -- and flashing gas light.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Check engine light for emissions has been on for a while already replaced gas cap.

The issue could be the fuel tank level sensor. If there is a spot of corrosion that prevents contact, you will not have a fuel level reading at that point.
You may, however, get a different reading as you empty the fuel tank. As in, it may only work close to full, then close to empty.
Remove and inspect the fuel pump, it has the sensor attached inside the fuel tank.
