What is your question?
When coming to a stop (regardless of speed) the speedometer will fluctuate (sometimes dramatically) and the car will stall. Other times when coming to a stop there will be a slight fluctuation in the speedometer while I am stopped/stopping but the car won't stall- sometimes it acts like it will but doesnt. This started suddenly. My brother is thinking an alternator and wants me to buy it...but the part is pricey and I am unsure that is the problem. Would these symptoms be an alternator? My brother said he thinks the alternator is causing the speedometer to surge...???
What makes this problem better or worse?
The car is not currently stalling while in motion
How long has your 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt had this problem?

Hello, it is possible, but not a certainty, and leaves doubt -- as other electronic components would be acting odd if there was an electrical concern. Testing of the charging system is needed, and is not difficult, nor should be very expensive at a trusted local shop near you. Beyond that, you could have a speed sensor issue, a speedometer issue, a wiring issue. It's just too hard to guess and requires testing.
I own a 06 Chevy cobalt and my speed sensor was the issue. The speedometer kept fluctuating when coming to a stop and when accelerating from a stop transmission acted like it shifting at the wrong time.My cobalt also stalled out at times when the speedometer got too erratic. 30$ part at autozone and easy to replace.
