What is your question?
2004 Honda Pilot - I have trouble filling up the tank about 60 - 70% of the time. It takes about 1/2 a gallon and then pump shuts off. When it does take gas normally, it doesn't know it's full. It is a 18.5 gallon tank and sometimes it takes over 20 gallons.

If a person keeps adding gas after the first or second 'click off' of the nozzle, that is called topping off. The gas can and will go to the carbon canister, which can hold a substantial amount of fuel, but over time, this will saturate and ruin the canister to the point where it will not be able to 'breath' and let the displaced air out of the fuel tank from the incoming gas being added, so the nozzle will click off, over and over and over again. So, the fix is to replace the carbon canister and make sure that the vent valve is still ok as well.
Thanks for the reply. The nozzle never clicks off (first or second time). I just notice it goes over the tank capacity and then manually shut it off. Where would the carbon canister be located? I can check it for gas. I can hear gurgling when the nozzle shuts off. Another mechanic suggested it was an obstruction. Any other thoughts? THanks!!!
