What is your question?
I have a '97 Jaguar XJ6 - experienced stalling at stop lights when stepping down on the accelerator to go ahead. The engine stalls (turns off) requiring moving from Drive to Neutral, restarting the engine and then going back into Drive to proceed! Took it to the Jaguar dealer on Merritt Island, FL where it was diagnosed as a faulty Throttle Position Sensor (Code = P1790). This was replaced and checked out and pronounced "fixed". Unfortunately it continued to stall as before. I took it back and after a second scanning with the shops computer, it passed the test again indicating that it was working correctly. However, it continued to stall when the shop tech took it our on a test drive. They continued to do checking with no success! Their conjecture is that it is definitely an electrical or computer problem but so far the problem hasn't been found. If anyone has experienced a similar problem, please let me know what and how it was fixed! Thank you...

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND AFTER CHANGING THE AIR IDLE THE EGR VALVE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND EVERY SENSOR I COULD FIND AND IT STILL STALED, ALSO CHANGED ONE IGNITION COIL ON CYLINDER #6 WITH NO CHANGE STILL STALLED AFTER 20 MILES LIKE CLOCK WORK. WHAT I REALIZED IS THAT ONCE THE COILS HEATED UP THEY FAILED AND ONCE THE COMPUTER REALIZED THAT IT COULD NOT RUN THE ENGINE PROPERLY IT SHUT IT DOWN IN THE SAME WAY THAT IT WOULD SHUT DOWN THE BRAKE SYSTEM IF A PORTION OF IT FAILED AS IT DID ON MY 93 XJ6. HOW I FIXED THE PROBLEM WAS BY CHANGING ALL 6 IGNITION COILS AT THE SAME TIME AND NOW I HAVE HAD 2300 MILES WITH NOT EVEN A HICK-UP. MY SON HAD BOUGHT SOME CHEAP COILS ON E-BAY AND THEY ALL FAILED AFTER 10,000 MILES, SO THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS GET THE BEST COILS YOU CAN AFFORD, AND UNLIKE CARS WITH A DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR AND ONE IGNITION COIL, THESE CARS WITH 6 COILS CAN NOT RUN ONCE ENOUGH COILS FAIL. THIS IS A VERY BIG DISCOVERY BECAUSE EVEN THE JAGUAR TECHS HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT THIS PROBLEM, AS THEY HAVE ALL BECOME SO DEPENDENT ON THE COMPUTERS TO SOLVE ALL OF THERE PROBLEMS THAT THEY DON'T THINK THIS FAR. PLEASE LET AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN KNOW ABOUT THIS DISCOVERY, AS THESE ARE VERY NICE CARS,JUST A LITTLE TO SMART FOR THERE OWN GOOD LOL. GOOD LUCK
We have a 1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas and it was acting in the same manner as you described. It was a faulty ignition coil.
If your gas pedal feels like its stuck then your throttle body needs to be cleaned, as for the stalling I would look in the direction of a crank position sensor.
I TOOK MY XJ6 TO JAGUAR DEALER AND THEY CAN'T FIND THE STALLING PROBLEM;NO CODES THEY SAID MAYBE THE TPS? 570.00 NO FIX; BACK IN AGAIN INTERMITTENT COILS FAILURE? NO FIX 800.00 WHAT?? I TOOK MY CAR HOME AND GOT THE THROTTLE BODY OFF CLEANED THAT WAS NASTY! THEN I REMEMBER THAT SINCE I HAD THE PLUGS REPLACED THIS STALLING PROBLEM GOT WORSE WITH TIME.... IF I STEP ON IT WILL DIE PIRIOT. SO TODAY I DID AN EXPERIMENT AND INSTALLED NGK BKR6ES 6364. AFTER REPLACEMENT I TEST DROVE MY WONDERFUL XJ6. SEVERAL TIMES HARD TOO LOL MY JAC IS PERFECTLY RUNNIG NOW NO MORE STALLING AT ALL. THE PLUGS THAT THE DEALER SOLD ME A YEAR AGO BOSCH PLATINUM4 WRONG PLUGS FOR JAGUARS THE COMPUTER OR ECU SEE MISS FIRE AND SHUTS ENGINE OFF THATS WHY THE JAC STALLED MORE AND MORE OFTEN I WENT BACK TO JAGUAR AND TOLD THEM AND THEY GAVE ME ALL THE MONEY BACK...I MEAN FOR ALL... THE TPS AND COILS.I TOLD THEM TO STICK TO BASIS NOT DEPEND ON SCANNERS SO DAM MUCH. WELL MY CAR IS PERFECTLY GOOD AGAIN...:))))
I had a very similar problem with our 1997 XJ6. The problem was a relay in the ignition circuit behind the right (passagers) headlight. There are 3 relays located there, it was the middle one if I recall correctly. I could make the car die by tapping on top of the relay. It was $27 for the relay at the Jaguar dealer when I replaced it about 8 years ago. Of course I broke it open after replacing it, there was a single set of contacts that were badly corroded with electrical arcing.
