Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! When the entire left side of your 1999 BMW 323is’s lights decide to take the day off after a climate control installation, it screams electrical issue. Since the problem popped up right after you worked near the stereo, I’d suspect a blown fuse, a pinched wire, or a grounding issue caused during reassembly. Double-check the fuses, especially for the lighting and OBD2 system. Even if a fuse looks fine, testing it with a multimeter can confirm if it’s truly functional. The left side of your car’s lights and OBD2 port may share a common ground or power supply, so ensure all grounds near the stereo and climate control are connected and secure. If you nicked or unplugged a wire behind the dash, it could disrupt circuits for multiple systems. Pulling the stereo and climate control unit back out for a second look might reveal a loose connector or damaged wire. A wiring diagram for the car could help trace any shared circuits. If nothing jumps out, a professional with a scan tool can track down where the power is getting interrupted.
