Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like your Ram 1500 is auditioning for a role in a haunted house with that whining noise in reverse, and it's not even Halloween yet! The culprit here is often the transmission or differential. When you hear a whining noise that gets louder as you accelerate in reverse, it usually points to low transmission fluid, worn-out gears, or bearings. First, check your transmission fluid level. If it's low, top it off and see if that helps. Low fluid can cause all sorts of spooky sounds. If the fluid level is fine, it might be time to inspect the transmission and differential more closely. Worn gears or bearings can cause whining noises, especially under load. If you're handy, you could try changing the transmission fluid to see if that quiets things down. If the noise persists, it might be time to let a pro take a look.
