Where is the oil pressure sending unit located on the engine

(2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo)

i have blinking and sometimes steady oil light on but oil pressure seems to be o k no rattles or knocks

You won't hear the rattles and knocks until the damage has been done and it's too late. I recommend you find out whether you have good oil pressure or not. Either replace the sensor ASAP or get a test gauge on the oil system and find out if the oil pressure is OK.
I don't have a location for the oil pressure sensor but if you go to the dealer or a parts store they probably have the answer. Also, you will know what it looks like when you see the new one and it's probably near the oil filter.
