when towing my 5TH wheel i normally don't use the tow switch. is that a problem?

i have been experiencing overheating problems. is that what the towing switch tries to eliminate? i have installed a cold air intake, a certified exhaust upgrade. what do you recommend? will the truck perform without any thermostats? is that recommended?
