What does a grinding noise mean?

I am hearing it at times I am applying brakes. Also, there is a light coming on and I am getting a message about gear control malfunction? Does that have to do with brakes or brake pads?

Hello, my gut is that you're having an activation of the anti-lock brake system due to some kind of wheel sensor or signal issue. Have this system, each wheel and wheel sensor inspected, have diagnostic testing performed using a suitable Audi compatible diagnostic tool.
