Water slashed under the hood, by the windshield no warning light, pungent smell

Been in a trip if 3 hours, when I stop at the hotel I noticed kind of mist coming out by the windshield right side.and a pungent smell. I opened the hood and high by the windshield I saw water or some kind of liquid splashed by the engine cover. I waited, turn the car back on, no warning lights and the car drove fine. No warning lights at all
What makes this problem better or worse?

The mist and smell might be from coolant, especially if it has a sweet odor. This could indicate a small leak in the cooling system, possibly from a hose or the heater core. Although much less likely, it's also possible that something splashed up from the road and is creating steam when it touches hot exhaust components.
