The car has to warm up for about 15 minutes before it will move, not engaging in any gear, R, 1, 2, 3, D, or OD. Put car into "Park" and then back into "Drive" if this happens at a STOP sign, or Red light, and it goes into gear.
Yes, check the transmission fluid level. This is done in "P" Park with the engine idling. the fluid must be warm to ge an accurate reading. If the fluid level is OK then the problem is prolbably hardened and stuck seals inside the transmission meaning it is rebuild time. But.... I have had some luck with a product called "Transmedic" helping this symptom.
