spark from the positive cable now wont start

What is your question?

i was leaving for work like i usually do and i turned the key in my truck and i heard what sounded like a spark and lifted the hood and notices the positive cable on the battery was smoking. i have never had a problem starting the truck at all now the lights work but when i turn the key nothing happens. the battery still has juice and wont jump start. i was thinking it was a fuse but not sure which one if that is it and how to tell if it is blown

Nissan trucks around this time had "fusible links" near the battery positive post there may be a black plastic cover over them, I can't remember, see if any off them are blown. The heavy battery to starter cable is not fused. High resistance in a circuit causes increased amperage to flow in the circuit and can blow a fuse or make a battery cable get hot. High resistance can be caused by a corroded or bad engine ground, bad battery cable or poor connections at the battery. The starter itself is the heaviest electrical consumer on any car, it will draw between 80 to 120 Amps, if it is going bad or shorts out internally the amperage can go up considerably and cause the battery cable to get really hot. To see if a fuse link or fuse is blown you need an ohm meter or a voltmeter. A fuse can often be removed and visually inspected to see if it is good.

so i looked under the hood and their is black box that has fuses in it such as the fuel pump relay, the main relay, and the check relay. the only other black looking boxes by the positive is a couple of what looks like wire connectors

I am having the same problem. Although the "spark" came from a 2 wire harness off the (+) lead, It looks like it goes into the firewall. 1 black wire and 1 green wire. I originally suspected the starter, but yanked that out and tested fine at autozone. The green wire seems to have imploded within itself as all that is left is the green insulation. Surprised it did not melt. There is a double pronged relay right on the other side of the (-) lead that I've seen goes bad often. Need to find a reliable wire diagram, and figure out what this elusive green wire goes to before proceeding any further. until then,,,poor truck is dead. 1993 nissan D21

The Fuseable Link is the problem. $13.00 for the harness! For me it was the fuseable link between the ECU and Igntion switch, which comes off the positive side of the battery.

Hi buddy, hey where did you find the harness. I'm having a hard time finding it here in Colorado. You can email me at mgarrett@r2hengineers.com Thank you, Mike

Hey. I got the same problem too! Where did you buy the fusible link harness? I can't find this anywhere. I might have to stop by the dealer but I'm assuming the price will be outrageous. Please email me the info at Ezrick13@yahoo.com

I’m having the same problem on my 93 Pathfinder and would very much appreciate knowing where you found the fusible link harness. You can email me at pgb911@gmail.com Thanks, Phil

Did you check all your fuses. I know my fusible links were giving me problems so I just replaced them with car audio fuse blocks. 80 amps, 40 amps, and two 20 amps. Have not had a problem in three years. Those links are in line just below the positive clamp. They look exactly like wires so be keen about inspecting them.
