The computer controlling ignition and fuel in your car is sensitive to battery voltage it must be above 10 volts or so to operate correctly. Popping sounds sounds like a lean running condition maybe a vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, ignition coil breaking down. Foolish to jump to conclusions without being able to do proper diagnostic tests.
