belt idler pulley or belt tensioner broke off while coming home from Reno, Nv last night.
At around 170k the belt popped off one day after driving through some semi deep water but nothing higher than a football. About 4 months later this happened again out of nowhere. The again about 3 months later. Then I noticed the tensioner was a little loose and a squeal every once in a while. Finally This Sunday, at around 190k the tension started to break apart only 2 miles from home. I got the belt back on and on turn over it exploded apart. Car had to be towed home and now about to replace the tensioner. PS: Does anyone know who the engineer is that gave the ok to put this thing half an inch away directly beside the frame rail? I'd like to meet him!
loud squealing that is on and off, it only does it every once in a while. But the longer the car runs the worse it gets.
have replaced the serpentine belt 4 times each time at the 1st start of the day there's an awful squealing noise that lasts for about 5 to 10 minutes then stops, within the next 5 starts the belt shreds all on the inner side closest to the motor
Belt broke a few months ago so i fixed it. Now i have squealing not sure yet what the cause it. Have heard/read it could be any of a number of things but the a/c tension is not moving
Every time it rain or belt got wet from a drive thru car wash, it would squeak like crazy then jump off . then it started eating belts back to back. After about 3Rd belt, I find out it was the serpentine belt tensioner had went bad and a piece fall off when I crank it up. Replced it and no problem now. I can even do the undercarriage wash with I worried now.
Not only newer ones, have an 88 and a 92 which do it as well. not worth fixing if you can stand the noise haha
