FJ starts but idle goes up and down. Getting code P2118, c1201, and C1290

P2118 refers to the electronic throttle control system -- more notably, the power source to that circuit being interrupted. This vehicle accelerates using sensors related to your accelerator pedal inputs. When the code sets, a malfunction has been detected in the system, and it goes into a "fail safe" mode. This is what you are experiencing. The diagnosis for this code has a few steps to follow, checking for presence of voltage in various circuits related to the system. You could have a blown ECTS fuse in the engine room fuse box (although for what cause, I don't know), and that alone could be the source of your problem. More likely, it is more complex, a wiring concern, or even an Engine Control Module concern. The C1201 indicates an issue with the engine control system, as related to the stability controls system. The C1290 indicates an issue with a steering angle sensor. My gut feeling with all of this is that there is some kind of wiring concern going on. Check all related fuses first to ensure all are OK. Think of any recent unusual circumstances -- was there a recent accident? Fender bender? Something unusual? To me, things like this that happen have a catalyst that causes it, something that may help focus attention to a certain area of the vehicle or section of wiring to check. If I had to guess, I'd say each of those codes is related to the same fault. Testing is definitely in order to determine what happened. Good luck!
