The vent solenoid on your 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac opens and closes to seal the fuel vapor (EVAP) system as necessary according to the commands from the PowerTrain Control Module. My information shows that the vent solenoid may be part of the Vapor Canister which stores the fuel vapor until it can be routed to the engine and burned in the combustion chambers. If indeed the vent solenoid is part of the vapor canister the cost to replace the canister should be in the $100 - $140 range.
