IF THE BATTERY CABLE OR STARTER WIRE INSULATION IS DAMAGED BY SUCH CONTACT, A SHORT TO GROUND CAN OCCUR RESULTING IN OVERHEATING OF THE WIRING AND POSSIBLE IGNITION OF SURROUNDING COMPONENTS.
The battery cable may contact the right engine mount, causing it to chafe and short circuit. This can cause the harness to overheat and cause a fire hazard.
You must visit a Ford dealership to perform recall repairs on your Ford vehicle. October, 1996 is the date of first customer contact by Ford. If not notified, you can check to see if your vehicle is included in this or any other recall by contacting one of your local Ford dealerships. Be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
