Seat belts that do not retract or extend can fail to restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
The front seat belt pretensioners may lock the seat belt in error which can prevent the belt from reacting or extending. This can prevent proper restraint of an occupant in an accident increasing the risk of injury.
