Deactivated hands-off detection will prevent DISTRONIC system features from functioning, including warnings to grab the steering wheel and calling first responders as part of the Active Emergency Stop Assist, which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
For vehicles equipped with a heated leather steering wheel, the hand detection control unit may not work properly, allowing the Active Driver Assist DISTRONIC system to continue working instead of shutting off due to no hands on the wheel. Without warnings to the driver that hands are off the wheel or other functions of the DISTRONIC system, risk of injury or accident is increased.
Recall repairs on your Mercedes-Benz vehicle must be performed by a Mercedes-Benz dealership. Mercedes-Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in May, 2022. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mercedes-Benz dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Mercedes Benz recall number is 2022040010.
