The passenger frontal air bag may be deactivated in error due to a problem with the passenger seat occupant classification system. If the system thinks there is no one in the seat, or an occupant of a low weight, it will turn off the air bag as a safety precaution. If there is an occupant and the air bag does not deploy, there is an increased risk of injury.

You must contact and visit a BMW dealership to perform recall repairs on your BMW vehicle. The schedule for BMW to contact known owners of affected vehicles was during September, 2021. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. How many vehicles are affected by the recall? How complex is the problem to fix? How many different parts are involved in the repair? Are the repair parts available? How many recalled cars can the dealer repair each day (while also doing their daily service business)?

Recalls are unrelated to your warranty coverage. Any recalls that are issued for safety-related items on your vehicle will be repaired by the vehicle manufacturer at no cost to you.
