The passenger frontal air bag may not function as needed in an accident due to deterioration of the passenger seat occupant detection mat. This mat determines if a passenger is sitting in the front seat, and if so, if it is an adult passenger. If the mat is deteriorated, it may not accurately enable the air bag to protect the occupant. This would increase risk of injury in a crash.
