On July 6, 2017, BMW recalled 2,158 BMW 330i. Bmw of north america, inc. (bmw) is recalling certain 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi, 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, and 550i vehicles equipped with the sport seat option and certain 2006 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i vehicles with standard seats. the front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if, and how, the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.

During an accident when the passenger frontal air bag should deploy to protect vehicle occupants, it may not deploy as needed due to deterioration of the passenger occupant detection mat. This would cause increased risk of occupant injury.

Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in September, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

The doors of the vehicle which feature Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options may fail to latch properly, seeming to be closed when they are still open. This would allow the door to open unexpectedly while driving and could result in occupant ejection or injury.

The passenger frontal air bag assembly is deployed by an inflator which contains propellant that makes the air bag deploy. The air bag inflator may not vent properly in the event of a crash that results in deployment of the air bag. As a result, the inflator may rupture on deployment, which can send metal shrapnel through the air bag, striking vehicle occupants. This could result in serious injury or death.
