An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Passenger frontal inflators replaced during a previous recall program contain a propellant (phase stabilized ammonium nitrate - PSAN and PSPI-2) that can cause the inflator to explode upon deployment when exposed to high temperatures, high humidity and high temperature cycling. Dealers will again replace the front passenger air bag with one of a revised design free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in March, 2020. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
