An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the front passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Parts that were used to replace passenger frontal air bag inflators under a previous recall program contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. These new inflators may also explode due to propellant degradation occurring as moisture accumulates from high humidity, high temperatures and temperature cycling. An inflator that explodes can spray metal fragments onto vehicle occupants, increasing risk of injury or death.
Recall repairs on your Chevrolet or GMC truck must be performed by a General Motors dealership. General Motors will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in February, 2020. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The General Motors recall designation is N19-2290990.
