On May 10, 2018, Chevrolet recalled 111,966 Chevrolet Cruze. General motors llc (gm) is recalling certain 2016-2018 chevrolet cruze ls vehicles, equipped with a gasoline engine and a tire inflator kit instead of a spare tire. the vehicles may leak gasoline following a rear-impact crash and a rollover. as such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 301, "fuel system integrity."

The vehicle may develop a fuel leak if involved in a rear impact collision, or a collision that involves a rollover of the vehicle. This creates a fire hazard.

Recall repairs on your Chevrolet must be performed by a General Motors dealership. For vehicles equipped with a plastic handled Kiddie fire extinguisher, the extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected. It could also make it necessary to use excessive force to activate the extinguisher. The nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with force as a result, causing injury. All of these concerns would prevent the extinguisher from functioning properly as needed during a fire.

The rear fuel tank and front fuel tank work together to balance fuel levels during normal vehicle operation and filling of fuel tanks. At times, the rear fuel tank may overfill the front fuel tank because the front tank low fuel level sensor may stick. This can cause the front fuel tank to expand and contact the drive shaft, which could cause a hole to develop in the front fuel tank and result in a fire hazard.
