Brakes
If the valves do not properly close, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The valves within the hydraulic control unit (HCU) of the antilock brake system (ABS) may negatively react with brake fluid that has specific corrosive preventative additives. This can cause the valves to stick creating the need for extended brake pedal travel stopping. Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 type fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. Additionally, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as needed. All repairs will be performed free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your Ford, Mercury or Lincoln must be performed by a Ford or Lincoln dealership. Ford will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in January, 2020. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ford or Lincoln dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Ford recall number is 19S54.
