Passenger Frontal Air Bag Does Not Deploy As Needed In An Accident

Recall Details

The wiring harness may disrupt electrical communications and disable the passenger front air bag from deploying in an accident. The turn signals and engine starting system may also be negatively affected. Dealers will repair the wiring harness free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Mazda must be performed by a Mazda dealership. Mazda will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in December, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mazda dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. Summary
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2018 CX-9 vehicles. The wiring harness may disrupt electrical communications and disable the passenger frontal air bag, turn signals, and/or engine starting system.
Consequence
The passenger frontal air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury. Inoperable turn signals prevent the driver from signaling to other drivers, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will repair the wiring harnesses, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or before July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 4. Mazda's number for this recall is 3419E.
