If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
The bushing that attaches the transmission shift lever cable to the transmission may degrade and fail, preventing the transmission shift lever from being securely moved to the park position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, or allow the key to be removed from the ignition when not securely in the park position. Ford is currently developing a repair procedure for this concern, and it is not available at the time of this writing. Once available, dealers will perform repairs free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your Ford must be performed by a Ford dealership. Ford began notifying known owners of affected vehicles beginning in May, 2019. If you have not received a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ford dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Ford recall number is 19S16. It is recommended to use the parking brake to secure the vehicle until the recall remedy repairs can be made.
