Recall 19V362000

Transmission Shift Lever Does Not Securely Engage The Park Gear

Recall Details

The bushing that attaches the transmission shift lever cable to the transmission may degrade and fail, preventing the transmission shift lever from being securely moved to the park position. This can cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, or allow the key to be removed from the ignition when not securely in the park position. Ford is currently developing a repair procedure for this concern, and it is not available at the time of this writing. Once available, dealers will perform repairs free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The transmission shift lever cable is attached to the transmission by a bushing. This bushing may degrade over time and detach from the transmission. If this happens, the transmission shift lever may be moved to the park position, but may not be securely in the park gear. This could allow the vehicle to roll unexpectedly, and allow the driver to remove the key from the ignition without having the vehicle secure from moving. These concerns can result in injury or a crash.

What Should You Do?

The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.
Consequence
If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
