GPS Does Not Provide Location Information To Emergency Personnel

Recall Details

The Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may have a software error preventing information about the vehicle's location from being communicated as needed to emergency personnel in the event of an accident. Dealers will update the VCM software free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system may not provide proper vehicle location information to emergency personnel in the event of an accident. This is due to a software concern within the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM). Lack of proper communication of the vehicle location to emergency personnel can inhibit emergency response in an accident, leading to increased risk of injury.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Volvo must be performed by a Volvo dealership. Volvo will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in January, 2019. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Volvo dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Volvo recall number is R39917.
