If a child seat is in the front seat and the passenger air bag is not deactivated, in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.
The occupant detection system works to identify if an occupant in the front passenger seat is of small size and stature, such as with a child. If the system detects such a person, it shuts down the passenger frontal air bag and prevents it from deploying so as to not injure the occupant. On affected vehicles, the passenger frontal air bag may remain active erroneously with a small person or child in the seat. During deployment, injury can occur as a result.
Recall repairs on your Mercedes Benz vehicle must be performed by a Mercedes Benz dealership. Mercedes Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in October, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mercedes Benz dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
