Air Bags And Restraint Devices Do Not Deploy In An Accident

Recall Details

The air bags and seat belt pretensioners may not deploy as needed in an accident. Dealers will make repairs to remedy the concern (the remedy is still under development as of the time of this writing). This will be done free of charge.

Our Quick Take

The vehicle air bags and seat belt pretensioners  are restraint devices that protect occupants in an accident. During a crash where deployment is needed, these restraint devices may fail to deploy due to a short circuit within the air bag control unit (ACU).  This would lead to increased risk of occupant injury.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Kia must be performed by a Kia dealership. Kia will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Kia dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Kia recall number is SC165.
