Rear Outboard Seat Belts Retract Inside Interior Paneling Preventing Latching

Recall Details

The rear outboard seat belt latch plates may retract into the interior paneling, preventing occupants from being able to use the seat belts. Dealers will install a buffer to the c-pillar interior trim paneling free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The tongue portions of the seat belt that inserts into the seat belt buckles of the rear outboard seats may unintentionally retract inside the interior paneling of the vehicle, becoming impossible to use, preventing occupants from being able to securely fasten the seat belts. This could lead to increased risk of injury in a crash.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Mercedes Benz vehicle must be performed by a Mercedes Benz dealership. Mercedes Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in May, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mercedes Benz dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
