Unloaded Vehicle Weight Label Lists Incorrect Weight Specification

Recall Details

The unloaded vehicle weight label may list the improper weight of the vehicle. This could lead to body builders listing the inappropriate vehicle weight capacity, and lead to overloading of the vehicle. Dealers will replace the unloaded vehicle weight label and inspect the vehicle to make sure that it is not overloaded free of charge to resolve the concern.

The label on the vehicle that lists the vehicle weight may be incorrect. This could allow final vehicle manufacturers adding weight to the vehicle with up-fit bodies to exceed true vehicle weight limits, which could lead to overloading vehicles and result in an accident.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Sprinter must be performed by a Sprinter dealership. Daimler Vehicles USA will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable of this notification is not available as of the time of this writing.) If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Sprinter dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and Sprinter 3500 vehicles, equipped with folding seats (sales code S20). The unloaded vehicle weight (UVW) label on these incomplete vehicles may be incorrect.
The incorrect UVW label can result in final stage manufacturers exceeding the maximum vehicle weight once the vehicle is completed. A vehicle that exceeds its maximum weight has an increased risk of a crash.
DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the UVW label and inspect the vehicle to make sure that it is not overloaded, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.
