Transmission Shift Lever Can Be Moved Out Of Park Without Depressing Brake Pedal Or Without Key

Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

The transmission shift lever should not be able to be moved from the locked park position without depressing the brake pedal with the key in the ignition in the "on" position. On some affected vehicles, the brake transmission shift interlock mechanism may stick in the "open" position. If this happens, the shift lever will release from the park position without depressing the brake and without the key in the ignition on position. This could cause the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly and result in injury.

Recall repairs on your Ram truck must be performed by a Ram dealership. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in February, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ram dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is T79.

How many recalled cars can the dealer repair each day (while also doing their daily service business)?

Recalls are unrelated to your warranty coverage. Any recalls that are issued for safety-related items on your vehicle will be repaired by the vehicle manufacturer at no cost to you.
