Front Suspension Left Side Steering Knuckle Fails

Recall Details

Casting imperfections in the front left steering knuckle may cause the knuckle to fail. This would result in loss of vehicle control and an accident. Dealers will inspect the left front axle steering knuckle, replacing any affected knuckles found free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Smart vehicle must be performed by a Smart dealership. Mercedes Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in September, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Smart dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2017 smart fortwo and smart fortwo Cabriolet vehicles. Casting imperfections may result in the failure of the left front axle steering knuckle.
Consequence
Failure of the left front axle steering knuckle could affect vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the left front axle steering knuckle, replacing any from the affected batch, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in September 2017. Owners may contact smart customer service at 1-877-496-3691.
