On July 16, 2017, Smart recalled 5,061 Smart Fortwo. Mercedes-benz usa, llc (mbusa) is recalling certain 2016 smart fortwo vehicles. in these vehicles, the lock nut that secures the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever may loosen over time, resulting in increased parking brake lever travel before the parking brake engages.

The parking brake adjustment may loosen over time, resulting in the brake not being able to effectively hold the vehicle when parked. This could allow the vehicle to move when parked on a slope, increasing risk of injury or a crash.

Recall repairs on your Smart vehicle must be performed by a Smart dealership. Mercedes Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in September, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Smart dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
