Driver's Frontal Air Bag Unexpectedly Deploys While Driving

Recall Details

The driver's frontal air bag could deploy unintentionally while driving due to the wiring harness for the air bag getting chafed in the steering column and wheel area. Dealers will inspect the air bag wiring within the steering wheel, replacing it if necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Dodge must be performed by a Dodge dealership. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Dodge dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is T33.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2012 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the driver's frontal air bag may unexpectedly deploy if the air bag wiring harness gets chafed within the steering wheel and short circuits.
Consequence
Unexpected deployment of the driver's frontal air bag increases the risk of a crash or driver injury.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bag wiring within the steering wheel, replacing it if necessary. A protective cover will also be installed. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 28, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T33.
