Seat Mounted Air Bags Do Not Deploy When Needed In An Accident

Recall Details

The igniters in the front seat side air bag assemblies may not function in a crash. Dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the front seat side air bags free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The air bags mounted in the sides of the front seats may not deploy when needed in an accident due to a failure of the igniters within the air bag assemblies. This would increase risk of occupant injury in a crash.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your BMW or Mini vehicle must be performed by a BMW or Mini dealership, respectively. BMW and Mini will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in February, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW or Mini dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
