Front Lower Ball Joints Fracture In Cold Weather States

Recall Details

Water contaminated by salt that is found on roads treated in cold weather areas can cause corrosion within the lower control arms, which can result in the lower ball joints separating from the vehicle. Dealers will replace both front lower control arms free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The front lower control arms may allow salt contaminated water used to clear roads in cold weather states into the front suspension ball joint fittings. This could cause the ball joints to corrode and separate from the vehicle, which could cause loss of vehicle control.  This would increase risk of an accident.
