Automatic Closing Function Of Sunroof Can Be Accidentally Triggered

Recall Details

The automatic closing feature of the sunroof may be tripped accidentally because of how the sunroof switch is mounted in the overhead console. Dealers will perform a software upgrade that disables the auto-close function free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The operation of the sunroof as built includes a feature where the roof panel can be closed with one touch operation, automatically. Because of how the switch is mounted in the overhead console, it can be triggered accidentally. If this occurs, it could cause injury to occupants if they are in the way of the sunroof panel as it closes.

What Should You Do?

Recalls on your Volvo must be performed by a Volvo dealership. Volvo will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in June, 2016. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. Summary
Volvo Car USA LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2016 XC90 vehicles manufactured January 27, 2015, to April 23, 2016. The sunroofs on the affected vehicles have a switch on the overhead console that may not be adequately recessed to prevent the switch from being unintentionally pressed. When pressed, the sunroof may fully close. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems."
Consequence
If the switch is unintentionally pressed and the sunroof panel closes, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.
Remedy
