If the platform side plates crack, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall out, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator. Additionally, if the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.
For vehicles modified for use with wheel chairs, the wheel chair platform side plates may crack, resulting in the platform separating from the wheel chair lift. Dealers will replace any platform that has started cracking, and will install supplemental platform support bumpers free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recalls on your wheel chair lift equipped Ford should be coordinated or performed by a Ford dealership. Mobility Specialists, the equipment company that provided the lift, will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles (a notification schedule is not available as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ford dealerships, or Mobility Specialists directly at 1-877-777-5438. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
