Recall 14V627000

Reduced Braking Efficiency

Recall Details

These vehicles use a vacuum pump to supply power assist to the braking system. Due to insufficient lubrication this vacuum pump may fail. Failure of the brake vacuum pump would result in a reduction in braking power that could increase the risk of a crash. In order to correct this concern, dealers will install a locking ring in the camshaft to retain the camshaft seal disk in the proper location. This will ensure proper oiling of the vacuum pump. Note: This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall.

Our Quick Take

Power assist to the brakes may be lost unexpectedly resulting in increased stopping distance.

What Should You Do?

BMW will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning late November 2014. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your BMW dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call.
