Body, Interior & Misc.
The Restraint Control Module (RCM) is the "brains" behind the airbag system. Portions of the module are coated to help prevent moisture intrusion. The coating can crack and when exposed to humidity the printed circuit board may short circuit. This could cause one or more of the airbag system components not to function as expected in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury. Replacement parts are currently not available, a second notification letter will be sent when they are and dealers will perform the necessary repairs.
Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning mid-November 2014. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Ford recall number is 14S21.
The short circuits could cause the frontal air bags, side curtain air bags and the seat belt pretensioners to not function as intended when needed, increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash.
