Drive Train
If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash.
The electronics for the hybrid system have their own unique cooling needs. The coolant pump for this system can fail resulting in overheating of the hybrid electronics. As a result the powertrian may shut down causing the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump with an improved "brushless" pump to correct this concern.
Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning November 3, 2014. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your Mazda dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Mazda recall number is 7814I.
